Exercise Physiology

What is exercise physiology?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are minimum 4-year university qualified allied health professionals. They specialise in managing ongoing health conditions by delivering safe and effective clinical exercise, lifestyle and behaviour modification programs for the prevention, management and treatment of a large array of chronic diseases, injuries, and general conditioning.

Our AEPs have a wealth of experience in all fields of health and exercise from sports performance to chronic disease management including health research.

You are able to receive a rebate through your Private Health Insurance. We can also take referrals from your general practitioner through Medicare. Referrals can be made as part of chronic disease management plans (CDM), General Practitioner Management plans (GPMP), Team Care arrangements (TCAs) and are also referred to as part of the Department of Veterinary Affairs (DVA). Populations to refer include but are not limited to:

  • Injury/post-operative rehabilitation
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Chronic Lower back pain
  • Injury Rehabilitation
  • Osteo and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Aged populations
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Musculo-skeletal pain
  • Pain Management

The Professionals

Jamie Hart and Rachel Taylor are our Accredited Exercise Physiologists. They have a wealth of expertise in the fields of general health, rehabilitation and sports performance. Therefore if you have of the above issues, your GP can be using the Exercise Physiologist service at the Toorak Club. The research behind exercise as a contributor to positive health in most populations is overwhelmingly positive, and is being more widely used than ever before.

Therefore, please consider this unique service within our club and do not hesitate to ask Jamie or Rachel about any aspect of your wellbeing. They can provide you with the most accurate evidence based practices in regards to exercise and performance.

75% of gym users achieve no long term results! How do I get results in the Toorak Health Club?

  • Assessment
  • Use the results to have a specialised program designed for you
  • Reassess progress
  • Adjust your program accordingly

The Toorak Health Club Exercise Physiologists will assess and rate your health. We will then prescribe exercise that is specifically tailored to your immediate wellbeing. Your functional movement assessment, will include a cardiovascular fitness test, cholesterol, lactate, and glucose blood testing.

Following your assessment, our AEP’s will re-program your training mentality with the most up to date training methodology and knowledge.
Your first two 1-on-1 EP sessions (which are fully rebateable) your AEP will teach you how to exercise to maximize any efforts that you are currently making.

Book in with Rachel or Jamie for a free taster now to find out what it is all about.

Exercise Physiology  1:1 Sessions

Just like Personal Training, our AEPs are available to conduct 1 on 1 sessions, 2 on 1 sessions and small group sessions. You receive the very same care as with PT, but with that added health professionalism. Please check with your private health insurance as these sessions can also be claimed.

Health Assessments

Your body is your vehicle for life and your most valuable asset. We teach you to consider what fuel you feed your body and how that impacts your life. One of our abiding core philosophies is the importance of a dietary regime that compliments your training program. Starting with our unique detox programme, designed to eliminate the build up of toxins that affect us physically and mentally, you will be coached how to:

  • Implement our “Basic Dietary Rules” which will help to improve your energy levels and allow you to reach your optimal health and performance
  • Balance your food intake so that your weight will remain stable and your health and appearance will continue to improve

Senior Health

Many of The Toorak Clubs clients are between the ages of 50-80 plus. We understand that the goals of these clients can differ from someone who is thirty something. Again, we take these details very seriously and understand that a senior client may not want to climb a mountain or run a race (or maybe you do) but rather pay close attention to the goals you have as an older individual. We are aware of such issues as maintaining balance, weight training, bone density improvement, fighting off osteoporosis and address any weight issues you could have.

We have experience with the senior client and have worked with many over the decades in the business. Our trainers are committed to working closely with you and addressing any concerns you may have before or after your training sessions. No reason to feel intimidated nervous at The Toorak Club as we will design a fitness program specific to you.

Personal Training provides you with the motivation kick start you need to literally change your life forever!
